As a teacher, I feel that technolgy will play a huge role in my career. I think there are a few more things that might be helpful to know, but feel like I have learned a lot. I don't think that we spent enough time on excel and I think there is a lot that I am still kind of unsure about. I would like to learn about some of the good educational software companies and what websites have valuable information on them. I would like to learn more about how to zip documents together because I really didnt understand that.

I think I can achieve my future education goals by taking all the courses that will help me in my classroom. I think I would like to take at least one more technology class because I felt that this one was very helpful. I would also like to keep observing and visiting classrooms because everytime I have gone I have seen how they integrate their new technology into their classrooms. I think this class has been very helpful and I have learned a lot of strategies that I will use in my classroom.

From reading other student's blogs, I actually learned a few things that I hadn't realized before. I am realizing how important it is for a teacher to really evaluate any technology she might use in her classoom. Technology has become such a huge part in today's classrooms, but I learned that there is still misleading information.

Technology can be of great assistance in the classroom but you as a teacher shoulf make sure that it will truly be effective. There are different types of software designed to help teachers instruct their students in a different way. Educational software is a great tool because it provides another example of a subject if a student is struggling. While reading other people's blogs, I found it very interesting to see what they decided was important out of each chapter. I feel like a lot of people found educational software and integrating technology in the classroom very important. I also thought that computer viruses was one subject that many people choose to write about. They are so important to know about because just a small one could destroy your whole computer. In this class I learned a lot of information that will be helpful in my teaching career.

Technology is a great invention, but there are many things that can go wrong with it. There are some risks that we take everyday when we use computers. Any event that might cause a loss of computer equipment, software, data and information and processing capability is a computer security risk. A virus is anything that might potentially damage your computer program. Viruses are never a good thing and should be attempted to stop as soon as you see the signs of one. A virus is spread whenever a host program is shared and if the host program is copied, then the virus will be copied too. There are many different viruses that users of computers can pick up very easily. Most of the viruses are all different and will affect different programs on your computer. The best way to try and prevent these viruses is to download or install virus protection on your computer and make sure you are always updating it.

There are have been so many new advances in technology over the past few years. These days, most teachers have to go through extra training to teach them about all of the technology offered in their classrooms. The internet has high hopes to change the way that teachers instruct and the way their students learn. There are many new websites filled with reliable educational information. There are many new websites which were created to help students and teachers explore new education topics interactively. There is also educational software on DVD's. There are also new forms in technology which will be helpful in a classroom with special need students. There are now web text books where you can find all of the information in your text book at a website online.

Chapter eight was filled with a lot of information which will be very helpful to me. I learned that they have come out with so many new options for teaching methods because of technology. There are so many ways that teachers can attempt to help students learn the new information. Another thing I learned a lot about was that viruses are very common and that they can be very distructive to your computer. I have virus protection on my laptop but it has run out and I learned that I should update it ASAP. They have made so many wonderful advances in technology that teaching in a classroom in four years will be very different then it was when I was in elementary school.

Chapter seven includes a lot of information on what you should look for when you are evaluating educational technology. Before any teacher begins using any form of technology in their classroom, they should make sure what they are using is reliable and if it will enhance the students learning. To be appropriate for the classroom, the technology should be motivational and should be at the correct level for all students. Teachers should always check to make sure that wherever they go their information from is a relaible source. Many schools provide lists of different software products that they recommend to their teachers. Every year there are conferences held for teachers where they can all get together and discuss the different types of software they have used and what was effective or what to stay away from. When you are evaluating any software application, the first thing you should check for is content to see if the information provided is something that will be useful in your classroom and will go along with your lesson. Lastly, you should confirm that the software has appropriate content and teaches what you want to be better explained.

Technology plays a huge role in classrooms because they have to motivate students and change the patterns of traditional teaching. Most classrooms these days have one digital media computer and are known as one-computer classrooms. Teachers can use computers to present new material to their classes and they can also use it for individual presentations by their students. A great idea is to make a class newsletters and ask your students to write arrticles for it every so often. Another idea that teachers can use to integrate technology is to create a classroom blog. Teachers can use this to begin to get students involved with the internet and using technology for feedback.

You can ask your students to discuss whether or not they liked the way the lesson was presented and they can give you their feedback.Since my last post, I have learned alot more then I ever knew before about powerpoint. I have had a lot of teachers in the past that use power point to provide the notes but I never realized how much time goes into making one. I learned that there are so many different tools and options in power point that I never knew about before. I also learned a lot about what you have to look for in an education software product before you allow your class to use it.

Technology plays such a huge role in classrooms these days. It is meant to help out the teachers with the curriculum they are teaching. There are so many different methods and ways that teachers are able to incorporate technology into their classrooms. It has become very important to give each student the opportunity to work with computers. There are so many different programs that go along with all the different subjects that when a teacher incorporates technology it might be very helpful. If a student is unsure still about a certain area of a subject, a teacher might be able to recommend a program on the computer that might explain things better. Technoloy in the classroom is a great tool, but requires alot of planning. You always have to plan in advance what you can teach to the class and then what they can use technology to better explain something.

The ASSURE model is used by many teachers to help create technology enriched lessons. The first step is to analyze the learner and find out what their skill level and learning styles are. Some students will come into the classroom knowing more about technology then others. Then yous should state the objectives. What do you want the outcome to be and what do you want the students to gain knowledge of? When you know what your objectives are, you are able to select materials and the purpose of the lesson. Next you should select methods, media and materials and decide what materials and media format you will use for your lesson. You should always decide what method best fits your needs. Then you utilize the methods, media, and materials and before you use them you should preview everything that you are thinking about using. You as a teacher must evaluate all the software. Next you require learner participation and ask the students to complete activities that will help them learn a certain skill. Lastly, you as a teacher need to evaluate all parts of the lesson. Evaluation is the way that you can determine if the technology was helpful or not.

Since my last post I have learned alot about different strategies to integrate into the classroom. I have learned about how to evaluate different cites to make available to students. The ASSURE model is a great strategy to use when thinking about using technology in your classroom. I have also learned how to create a wikipedia page and connect it with others. I have learned how to insert a hyperlink and a picture.

In chapter 4 we learn about hardware. The system unit is a boxlike case that houses the electronic components a computer uses to process data. It is made of either metal or plastic and protects the electronic components from damage.
Most computers are digital; they understand on two discrete states: off and on. Each off or on digital value is called a bit (binary digit). When eight bits are goruped together as a unit they are called a byte.
The central processing unit (CPU) interprets and carries out the basic instructions that operate a computer. A chip known as the processor containts the CPU.
Memory on a computer is used to store data and informationo temporarily. In terms of size, you can either have a kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, or terabyte. Two types of memory are RAM, a volatile memory, and ROM, a nonvolatile memory. Flash memory is a type of nonvolatile memory that can be erased electronically and rewritten.
Input is enetering data, programs, commands, and user responses into memory. Types of input would be keyboards, pointing devices, or audio and video input.
Output is data that has been processesed into a useful form called information. Types of output include monitors, printers, data projectors, facsimilie machines, multifunction devices, speakers, and headsets.
Storage is the media on which data, instructions, and information are kept. Floppy and hard disks, CDs and DVDs are common.

Chapter 3 is mainly about computer software. The first thing is the opperating system. The most common are Microsoft Windows or MAC OS. Two other not as popular ones are UNIX and Linux.
Application programs are programs designed to perform specific tasks for users. They can be used as a productivity/business tool, to support school and professional activites, assist with graphics and multimedia projects, helping with home and personal activities and facilitating communication. Some functions the programs have are creating a new document, editing, inserting, delete, copy, paste, formating, font change, saving, and printing.
A database is a collection of data organized in a manner that allows access, retrieval, and use of that data. Database software allows you to create a computer database; add, change, and delete data; sort and retrieve data from the database; and create forms and reports using the data in the database.
There is also presentation graphic software, software suites and integrated software, graphics and mulitmedia software, software for school and professional use, and educational and reference software. All of these help perform different tasks in aiding in educational technologies. There is also learning aids and support tools for any problems and to help you use each software.

Chapter 2 is mainly about the internet and the different ways we use communication. Communication, or telecommunications, is the transmission of data between two or more computers using a communication channel. there are many different types of communication networks.
A network can either be a Local Area Network (LAN) or a Wide Area Network (WAN). There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
The internet is a very recent form of technology. The first internet service became functional in 1969. It was called ARPANET. The original ARPANET was a local network at the University of California's campus. The national organizations started to use the internet. The National Science Foundation was one of them and they used the service NSFnet. Over the years the internet has gotten more advanced and quicker.
To connect to the internet you must first have access providers. Then you can continue to the connection. Also, the internet backbone and addresses become important for use once you are connected. The internet is run off the basis of the world wide web (www) and web browser software.
The intternet is also used for games and stuff not just research. It has made it easier to communicate with features like AIM and facebook.

In the chapter, the book discussed storage media devices and I found that very interesting since I really just learned about them a few months ago. Computers have a special slot designed to put memory cards and PC cards in. A PC card is a very small device that adds more memory, network cards, disk drives and several other abilities to small computers. A memory card is a removable device that allows the operator to move data between a mobile device to a computer. There are also USB flash drives that come in many different shapes and sizes. This is also another wasy to transfer data. An output device is anything that is able to convey information to a user. The most common of these are monitors. Monitors display the information that is housed inside. Another really common one is the printer. This is an output device that takes texts and graphical information and transfers it onto paper, which is called a hard copy.
While reading over some other students blogs, I found it interesting that everyone picked different things to write about. I noticed that alot of people did discuss the many different output devices. I find it very interesting that everyone in this class is hoping to be a teacher, and I like how we all realize how big technololgy is in the classroom. I also found it interesting looking at other people's blogs because you can tell who knows alot about technology and who doesn't.
In this chapter I found out alot about different ways to store data. And I know that I will really need that when I begin to teacher. I found it really neat to learn about memory cards and such because just a few months ago is when I used one. And before I left for college my parents bought me one and I was still kind of unsure about exactly what to use it for. I also never really thought about the fact that monitors were a type of output device. I am really enjoying this book because it seems to discuss alot of important information that I will need to use in the classroom.

I had to take a computer class in high school. It helped with typing speed and how to use basic microsoft programs including Word, Excell, Powerpoint and Publisher. Also, I had to use computers and the internet at my last job.
I hope to learn more shortcuts in this class.
I am a very active and very visual learner.
